You know when you've been Tango'd

I'd been planning to makeover my old Supersprint back box for a little while. It's been on the car for about 12 years but is actually about 28 years old.

I originally bought it for £10 with a stub of centre section pipe firmly lodged in it's end where it had been cut off flush by someone in the past. My Dad had the patience to get the pipe stub out and over the years I've patched up the bottom and painted it a couple of times.

This time I wanted to make it look like new and also add a touch of classic 'Ansa' to it. Ansa are another famous Italian exhaust maker, famed for the orange painted inner ends on their sports exhausts often fitted to exotica such as Ferrari and Maserati.

I got a small pot of (RAL2004) pure orange heat resistant enamel paint on Ebay and sprayed that through a gun onto the cleaned up end. The main body and pipework of the exhaust were given a coat of satin black barbeque paint from a 'rattle' can and I even made a replica original paper stock label. I'm pleased with the result.

Whilst I was suirting orange paint around I thought I'd try and make a 'replica' Alfa orange oil filter, from a genuine black one, for the 33's next oil change. Alfa stopped supplying their oil filters in a glorious orange finish in the early noughties, which is a real shame. There are still some orange filters about for Alfas straight four 'Nord' engines and early 'Busso' V6's, at a price, but the boxer ones have all but run out.

No more sore head

After owning my Alfa 33 for 19 years I discovered (whilst looking for something else) that there was meant to be a plastic sheath part on the hatchback catch to stop it bashing and cutting the top of the owner's head about twice a year.

Better still, I discovered Alfa Romeo can still supply this part, it only costs about £3.50 and is easy to fit.

Piranha car alarm fiddling

Had a fiddle and clean up of my Orvel Piranha car alarm made in Italy in 1992. I even ordered and fitted a new special little 12v battery to the remote.

This alarm was fitted by a professional contractor that visited the supplying dealer of my car in 1993, prior to delivery, for the original owner. I have the receipt in with the car's paperwork, which is nice to have.
